HABLA FAMILIX!

HOWDY FAM AND FRIENDS,
So here we go I have about 10 minutes to crank out 7 days worth of information in an email... SO here goes nothing!
Well we had a baptism and it was a CRAZY Miracle.  We have had 8 disconfirmations (those are people who have committed to baptism, then backed out) this month in our area, and we were about to have 9...  Her name is Sara and well it was Thursday we went to see how she was doing and to get her ready for her baptismal interview on Friday and she came out of her house and said, well sorry but I don’t want to get baptized and if it’s the last time you guys come by that’s ok... WHAT!  We tried to talk to her and she wasn’t even budging!!!  I was SO DEPRESSED!  We left and my comp and I just walked to Plan B in Silence!  Then Friday we had our Weekly Planning Meeting and we were talking about Sara and we said what the heck we are going to FIND HER AND BAPTIZE HERE!!! But Friday we had a bunch of interviews to do and a teenager from England got baptized named BOB JENKINS!  I will explain next week but yeah so the interviews were in English so I had to do it. My comp went and worked miracles and BOOM we baptized her! VIVA!  We have 3 more for this week! PLEASE PRAY FOR US! LOVE YA! BYE!
Elder McGhie

So here are some pictures that he sent of his train trip and I dont know why but he looks like a terrorist in some of the pictures cause he has a black hat on and a black scarf around his neck and his white shirt and tie on................so weird!!  But he is so cute and he has less than 4 months left!!! =)

I think he spent a lot of time trying to
get a picture of the train from his window....he is
such a funny guy!! =)

THE HOGWARTS EXPRESS =)!!

See what I mean.............he looks sort of scary????

And this one looks like he is going to throw a bomb
or something on the city.........good thing he is
only holding the Book of Mormon!! =)

The Hogwarts Express in Peru!!!

HOLA FAMILIA Y AMIGOS!

So, this is Elder McGhie, writing you from HUNCAVELICA, Peru!  It is town about 4 hours away from Huancayo.  I traveled there today on a TRAIN!!!  Oh YEAH!  Haha it was so awesome!  It took about 6 hours by train, we left Hunacayo at 6:30 am and I got here around 12:30pm, but I totally felt like I was on the Hogwarts Express!  haha  It was a  legit chuga chuga cho-choo train!  And so, here I am in Hunacavelica on splits with one of our District Leaders, Elder Reyes from Chiclayo Peru.  I think I explained almost all of it on the voice recording! (Spencer sent 4 voice recordings, made while he was on the train!!  They are pretty funny and so very “Spencerish”!! =)They made me laugh and roll my eyes and basically they made me happy cause he is such a goofball!!! =) I will try to upload a link to his recordings but I am not sure how to do that so we will see what happens!! =)

So last week was kinda sad, all of our 3 investigators that were SO excited to get baptized all had some troubles this week and we couldn’t baptize anyone!  Oh man...  I won’t lie, I was pretty bummed since I got here to Hunacayo we have had 7 people super excited to get baptized and they really were doing great and all 7 have been disconfirmed... (not sure what that means except that they maybe cant be baptized ?) So Friday night we heard from Francisco (50 years old).  He moved back to Lima Wednesday at 4 in the morning! Then Jose Luis (23) well, he has a dad who is a drunk and a mom who is hooked on drugs so he fought with them and sort of moved out, well he left and his cell phone broke and we cant find him anywhere, and then Friday we were finishing the Pre-Interview with Sara and she told us she drank wine... WOOF!!!  SO Friday night I was a little bummed out, but we had killer multi zone conference with President Ardila on Saturday in the morning and it was AWESOME!  President Ardila is a CHAMP!  I was reading in my scriptures today and I found a verse that President Ardila had taught me about and I really love it!  Its in 1 Nephi 21:16, where the Lord promises that he will never forget about us, because he has us recorded in the palms of his hand!  I really liked that!!

It’s crazy to think I only have 4 and a half months left to serve as a missionary,  it’s pretty sad!  I can’t believe how fast time has gone by and how fast it keeps on going!  I love Peru, my mission, and this CHURCH!  So it’s time to work harder than ever and learn all I can in these 4 and a half months that I have left, there is a lot of work to do!  And Mom, I have no clue what I want for my birthday! (Okay, here is a question for all of you………what do you send a missionary for his birthday on August 19th, when he will be coming home  2 months  and a few weeks later???  I know we can send him American candy but Hello?  What else ………..any ideas???)  Haha this week I will think about it and I will write you this coming Monday.

LOVE YOU ALL!
Elder McGhie!

My New Companion!!

HOLA FAMILIA Y AMIGOS!!!

How are you doing!?  I hope you guys are very happy and all is well in good old SANDY, UTAH on DIANA HILLS!  Haha that made me remember when Ainsley and I went to drop Brandon off at his house after church and it snowed a bunch and we were turning to go down Diana Hills and Ainsley spun out of control and completely TRUCKED the Street Sign of Diana Hills!  It was just lying there flat in the snow!! We were in her old, but cool  Lexus and it only has rear wheel drive!!…. HAHAHA!!! CLASSIC AINSLEY!  But anyway enough of making fun of the Professional Accountant and Pastry Chef, this week was crazy!!!

So I wanted to thank you guys for the package, it got here last week, so my comp and I have SO Much chocolate to eat haah!  But we are happy with it and yes, Mom, I love the picture of the missionaries and the Armor of God, and the little picture frame of Christ and the sheep is my favorite painting! SO COOL And don’t worry mom I am brown on the inside like the stripling warrior picture you sent!!! Oh and thanks for the invitation to the wedding… 1 month late, DONDE ESTA EL AMOR! HAHA!  No don’t worry all is well.

So I am really sorry for my last few emails, that I haven’t written much, I will do better now!  SO my new comp is Elder Hernandez, It was so crazy we went to consejo(Zone Leader Conference that they have once a month) and President Ardila stood up and just started making transfers and he sent Elder Mitchell to the other zone in Huancayo, called Mantaro and Elder Hernandez is my new comp, he is from Guatemala, and a Champ!  SO happy and ready to work!  We get along great, of course I miss Elder Mitchell, but that’s the way the cookie crumbles eh?  So our investigators had to change their baptismal date to this week so we have Jose Luis, Sarah, and Francisco with a baptismal date this week…  Jose is 23 Sarah is 21 and Francisco is about 55 from Lima, he is here working for Claro (it’s like Verizon wireless of Peru)  and we found him and he wants to get baptized!!! There are also 2 teenagers, Junior and Christian they are 17 and 12, their Grandpa is member, and their mom is RE-CONTRA Inactiva (your guess is as good as mine about what their mom is???)!  So she doesn’t want to give them permission to get baptized, so please pray for them and their mom, so she can soften her heart and give them permission, so we have high hopes for 5 baptisms this week and about 15 to 20 as a zone.

I am really happy here in Huancayo, I will be even happier on Friday because we are going to change rooms!!! YAY! We have a brand new room they have been building for the missionaries and it will be ready Friday!  SO I hope all is well I love you very much, the Peru Trip, plan seems perfect to me, we go and visit my area’s and Pensionistas and converts for a couple days then mom can return the others come, (just to add a little note of Reality to this Peru trip plan, (which Spencer wants to take after he has been home a few weeks) Spencer’s has been in three main cities; Lima, Huanuco and Huancayo….. well Huancayo is a 6 or so hour drive from Lima and Huanuco is a 10 hour drive from Lima and in the opposite direction from Huancayo, so I don’t know how we are going to do that in a 3 day period but we will see?? Oh and by the way, We ONLY HAVE 4 and a half months left!! =)  Okay, I am going now!! So, bye)  and we can go MAD SIGHT SEEING! YEAH!   SO, Dad, the converse are black high tops, size 10 and a half… and the elder is going to pay me!
LOVE YOU!!!
BYE!!!

Wow, What a Week!!!

Dear Family and Friends,

What a marvelous time I am having here in Huancayo!!! It has really been a time of many miracles and many blessings!!!  So after I wrote you guys we got the results from last month and what we need to do this month to keep on track with the stake goals.  And well, remember what I told you about needing to baptize 50 people- wrongo!!! Try 73!!! But we said, well why not 80!!!  Yeah!  haha  So, our goal in the Huancayo Zone is 80 baptisms with 82 confirmations!   And you know the best part... it’s so crazy it just might WORK!!!  I couldn’t sleep that night thinking about how we were going to meet a goal so high, so I got out of bed knelt down and asked the Lord if it was possible or if we could baptize 80 people in this zone in this month!  And ya know what, IT IS!!!  I know it’s possible, because I felt it in my heart!!!  SO, with all that energy the next morning we had a meeting with our District Leaders and we told them about the goal, and they believe as well!!!  So we had to help the zone to believe and we had one of if not the most powerful zone meeting in my life and we all have testimonies that yes, we can baptize 80 people here in the zone.  When I told Elder Avalos (his old companion in the office) he about fell of his chair the other zone leaders that heard, just laughed... But to tell you the truth I am absolutely sure we can do it!!!  Like it says in 1st Nephi 3: 5, Its what the lord wants!!!  And we will do it because there are 80 people that need to hear this gospel and find this great happiness and peace in their lives!!! I KNOW ITS TRUE AND ITS TIME TO GO TO WORK! BYE!!
Elder McGhie

Back in the FIELD and LOVIN IT!

 HOLA MI FAMILIA Y AMIGOS,
This is ELDER McGhie reporting live from Huancayo.  And I just want to tell you I am very happy to be here, but there is ALOT of work to be done!  It looks like with our logro (goals) in May, we will have a lot of catch up work to be doing in June.  We have to keep up with the stake goals, and we are, dare I say, A bit far behind... Its time to Put the Shoulder to the Wheel!  I really love my area here, its called LA LIBERTAD and its really great.  My companion is Elder Nicholas Dean Mitchell from Riverside California, he is a Grade A champion!  He was in my zone in Amarilis, there are a few pictures of him when we roofed the Stake President`s house and we are all standing on the roof taking pics!  So, there you go, my comps mane is Elder Mitchell and he is a fantastic missionary.  We get along great, he attended BYU Idaho before the mission, and we are super excited to be working together in LA LIBERTAD!  I totally spaced my adapter this morning so sadly enough there won’t be any pics coming your way today... SORRY!  We had a meeting with the Stake President in the morning and all the district leaders, because we have to DOUBLE the baptisms here in Huancayo!  So the good news is we have an awesome stake president who is really excited to work and good missionaries here in the zone. It will be a fantastic month in June!  I hope you guys will pray for me and Elder Mitchell and our zone so we can really double the baptisms here.  I know we can do it, we have a lot of work to do and some things to change around but all is possible with the Lord!!!  But I need your prayers, that I might be able to help this zone meet our goals and be the missionary that the Lord wants me to be until the end of my mission!  Please don’t forget la ZONA HUANCAYO in your prayers!  So mom, my Pensionista is really great.  She is Hermana Patty!  She is married with one little tyke that is 1 year old.  She has facebook and would love to talk to ya!  I will get here full name this week!  Being here brings back a whole lot of memories from the last time I was here.  Elder Poindexter was my zone leader, and he finished his mission last week!  Man, I miss Elder Poindexter!  His name is Bradley Poindexter from some little town in Arizona.  I can’t remember what its called, but mom, if you find him on face book, tell him I love him!  And miss him!  haha I will send him a letter shortly!  So life is great, I hope all is well there in Sandy Utah.  I can´t believe time is passing by SO fast!  I’m sorry this email is short without pics.  I have to go help an Elder who’s computer stopped working... Haha back to the life of a zone leader eh? haha LOVE YA!
Elder Spencer Marty McGhie!

Hey the computer problem with the missionary is fixed, so I have a little more time!! Your package is in Lima, I missed getting it when I left but I think I will get the package when I go to lima next Monday for Zone Leader Conference (after internet, don’t worry Mom,  I will write you Monday as usual)!!  Oh and the converse that the missionary wants are size 10.5 in black!!

Oh, I almost forgot to tell you all, I LOVE YA’LL! I sent a big package home with all my stuff have you gotten it?  I will send your mother’s day card and cards for the whole fam when I get to consejo in lima next week!  Love you guys!
KEEP IT REAL!
Elder McGhie!

This is the picture that Spencer said his new
companion, Elder Mitchell is in??  My guess is
the Elder Mitchell is the one in the white shirt
sort of in the middle, I think, but I could be wrong,
I HAVE BEEN WRONG BEFORE, maybe once, haha!??? =)

Of course we all know who the guy making weird
faces in the neon green shirt is!!  He is such a nerd
but I love him so very much, nerdy and all!!
Oh and did I mention that we only have:
5 MORE MONTHS LEFT!!!! =)

HHHOOOOLLLLAA FAM Y AMIGOS!

So yesterday I received my Transfer, we went to President Ardila´s house to plan the transfers and this guy is off to Huancayo for the 2nd time!  Haha I couldn´t believe it!  I was pretty surprised, because the Zone Leader`s area is about 5 minutes from La Florida where I was about a year ago! Haha, but President told me they have a very Big Goal in Huancayo and I have to go and meet it!  At the beginning of the year President Ardila, took the Stakes goals from the whole mission and applied them to our goals, so now they are the same.  And Huancayo hasn´t met its goal yet the whole year, so the baptisms have been piling up after every month, because it is all based off a year end goal for the stake divided in trimesters.  So what I have to do is meet the goal of 43 baptisms as a zone in June!!! RAYOS DEL SOL!!! Haha that’s a whole bunch of baptisms, but I just told President, IRÈ Y HARÈ! (that means I will go, I will do) haha, I’m not so sure how we are going to do it, but hey, A MANS GOTTA DO WHAT A MANS GOTTA DO!  So with a lot of prayer and a LOT of help from the Lord, we are going to give it all in HUANCAYO!!! I’m pretty excited, and my new companion is a GRINGO!  His name is Elder Mitchell, from Orange County CALIFORNIA!!! YEAH!  I know him pretty well, he is a great missionary I am very excited to work with him!

So as you have seen from my pics, I was in Oxapampa and it was AMAZING!  SO beautiful, it’s like a paradise I mean seriously!  SO GREEN!  And I saw German decedents or GRINGOS!! Haha it was weird.  But I have to tell you what happened in Oxapamapa.  So the elders have an investigator there that attends every Sunday, his wife and 2 kids are converts about 3 years ago, and his son served a mission in Peru and got home last year.  His name is Roberto and he bore his testimony at the beginning of this month saying that he knew the church is true and all that, but he wouldn’t get baptized!!! haha President and Sister Ardila went with us to the appointment Thursday morning and we got to the house sat down and President told Roberto, well Roberto I’m President Ardila, I have been called by a prophet of God, like the missionaries, to Preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  And I have come today from Lima (a solid 15 hours away) to baptize you!haha!  Roberto about fell off his chair.  He was surprised and asked if we could say a prayer to thank God for bringing President and Sister Ardila to his home, and asked President to say the prayer.  We all knelt down and I felt the Spirit SO STRONG during President`s prayer it was incredible!  After the prayer we all sat up and Roberto said, thank you for your prayer and well I am getting baptized TODAY!!! HAHA!  I just about peed (sorry if this expression is offensive,  what can you do???  Some peoples kids, makes you wonder about their parents??? =) my pants and the missionaries jaws just dropped!  After 3 years and SO many Baptismal invitations from all sorts of missionaries just like that he decides to get baptized!  So I had the great opportunity to do his baptismal interview and I asked him why he wanted to get baptized.  He told me he knows the church is true, and he just needed that little push to get baptized.  He said that during President`s prayer he felt very strongly the need to be baptized, he said he felt the presence of someone calling him to the baptismal font with their hands stretched out.  What an amazing and powerful experience that really was!  I owe so much to the Ardila Family! They are SO great, and after all the stuff in Oxapampa, I rode back to Lima with President his wife and daughters!  It was really fun, I felt like I was on some family vacation, but of course it was nothing like a McGhie family drive, we missed screaming, spilling drinks in the car, emergency stops and well all that other McGhie stuff we do!  But I wouldn’t have it any other way!! Thanks fam and everyone!!!
I love you and we will be talking next Monday from HUANCAYO!  YEAH!! I will send the letter for Ryan and the size info for the converse then!
Bye!Elder Spencer Marty McGHIE!

Best P-Day Ever!

May 14, 2012
WHATS UP !!!

So life is just AMAZING here, I just finished about the greatest P day of my life, we had our spiritual share of things also our great fun!  But first off I just wanted to tell you guys it was SO GREAT to see you guys and talk on Skype!  That was just so great! And I can’t believe that was my LAST call home!  Is that just the weirdest thing ever!  It’s like yesterday I had my first one in Paucarbamba and Cried like a little school girl!  Time has just FLOWN by and it just keeps going faster and faster!  So since we have talked actually a lot of things have happened so enough with the chit chat I need to start typing!

Saturday morning…  BAPTISM! YEAH!  So Martin and Nardy are having a pretty tough time with their wedding so they asked us to baptize their son, so that was Excellent, then at 1 I had to catch my bus to get to La Merced and as usual, travel was a beast, like always in Peru.  Ha-ha so I don’t have much time but I need to tell you about today.  SO This morning we started off the Pday watching 17 Miracles.  HOLY SHNIKES IT WAS AMAZING!  I mean that movie was really great.  I won’t lie I shed some serious tears.  And after the movie, President asked for 2 testimonies, of Missionaries to tell us what they got out of the video and what they will take with them, one elder stood up and shared, and then no one else wanted to, I was leading the meeting so I was just waiting for someone to share their testimony.  BUT NO ONE would do it, so President, kinda disappointed said ok so we will just end with a pray, so I went up to pick someone for the prayer, but let’s face it, I’m from the McGhie-Spencer Generation, it is not in my blood line to pass up a chance to talk! Haha so I said, well if no one else wants to share I guess I will.  As you can remember about 99 percent of the time I bore my testimony before the mish I cried, and in the beginning of the mission I always was crying.  But it has been a very long time since I have cried in a testimony, and well that came to an end!  I balled like a little school girl once again!   I mean I just remembered so many things, how blessed we are to have a plate of food in front of us.  That thanks to those Pioneers that went through SO MUCH I am here right now.  They sacrificed their lives for this church, and we think 2 years is hard!  IT NOTHING!  I’m SO darn blessed and the least I can do is give ALL to the Lord in my Mission.  Wow, I was so humbled watching that movie, and then the thought hit me, that they are my family!  I come from a Pioneer family, I have Pioneer blood in my veins, and I just got to thinking what would have happened if they had just given up!  Where would I be?  Where would we be as a family?  And what could have happened if I just bag my mission, how many generations would I effect!?  Flip it’s time to step everything up!  I have LESS than 6 months to work in the Lord´s Vineyard!  I have to get back to the field ASAP!  I love the office it has been an experience like none other, but its game time, I just want to Baptize the whole Flippin Country of Peru Right now!  I mean that movie was SO Wonderful, Marvelous, please watch it and the Pioneers and get to WORK!  Dad and mom, I would like some Pioneer stories that come from our family! And tell the Lundberg’s I’m SO game for trek next SUMMER!  LOVE YOU ALL AND LETS GET TO WORK!
Elder Spencer Marty McGhie!

Las Familias Pueden Ser ETERNAS!

May 5, 2012

HOLA FAMILIA!
What a week I’ll bets it’s been!  Sorry, I wasted about half my internet time looking at the wedding Pics (I, his mom sent him the wedding pictures! Aren’t MOMS the best!! =) so my letter won’t be that long!
But……

CONGRATS AISLEY AND RUSS!!!

The Pics look great; I bet it was a BLAST!  So how’d the wedding go? (It went well, totally a surreal experience for me as a MOM but it was a really nice day and everything turned out just how Ainsley wanted it to and that is what is important!!  I think it was a great day for “The New Banks Family” (not sure I can get used to Ainsley going by Ainsley Banks (one day at a time Carrie!!!!??), one they will look back on and say to each other: “That was one of the BEST Days of my life”!!)  I made sure to say a few special prayers for you guys, I’ll bet it was crazy and all that but hey I’m sure you all loved it!  I realized you changed my head on the cardboard cutout eh? (The picture he sent us was fine but the resolution of the picture wasn’t too good so that when they sharpened the image, it made Spencer’s teeth looked like they were all broken off in different lengths with jagged edges!! It was quite funny to look at but I didn’t want everyone to think that Spencer hadn’t taken care of his teeth while in Peru for 18 months!! =) Oh and his hair was super short or should I say……shaved…. Here is a picture =)  --------------------------- >
Haha I guess now I’m a fat old missionary with a shaved head... Bummer deal haha! !  Just kidding it looked a lot better than I look right now cause I don’t have hair at this instant, but its growing back!  Haha so I hope my voice recording turned out good, (It was hilarious and he even sang a little!) I don’t know if you ended up using it or not, if not - NO PROBLEM!  It might have been a little cheesy... woof!

But hey so a little bit of news here in the mission field, President told me I will be heading back out to the field at the end of this transfer!  I have really enjoyed my time in the office, sure I will really miss the guys in the office but it will be nice to get back to the field and be able to WORK MY PANTS OFF and give it all I got for these remaining 6 months!  Pretty weird to say I’ve been a missionary for 18 months now... yikes!  I feel like yesterday I barely had 6 months in the mish!  AY CARAMBA time is flying and it just keeps going faster and faster!

So this week after the Conference with the zone leaders, we all went to this park of crazy water fountains with President his family, the office and all the zone leaders!  We took a butt load of pics but my dang adapter isn`t working (it cost me 7 soles)  Like dad told me when I came home with a shaved head after a free Barber Brown haircut... Son, you get what ya pay for!  (Haha don’t worry Jordy, I still live for the Barber Brown Cut!)   Haha but anyways, I’m so happy Ainsley got married!  It is really so Awesome!  They will be a great couple together!  And I had forgotten that Russ is a pretty big dude and could pretty much beat the tar out of me... but hey we will see in November in the first wrestling match, and if that goes bad we are taking it to the Hardwood SON!  Haha!  So life is good, tell Ainsley and Russ CONGRATS!  I’m so happy for them!  I will be calling Monday for 3 minutes to set up the phone call on Mother’s Day, yes I want to use skype!  Dad I was wondering if it can be a 3 way skype call with Ainsley if that’s possible!  Seeing that she is in SPAIN! Flip I haven’t even been to Canada and Ainsley has already covered three fourths of Europe!  So I am thinking of using skype on Friday or Saturday cause Saturday in the afternoon I will be going to Tarma and then La Merced for some interviews and conferences with President, but just to let you know, that’s what I’m kinda thinking!

Love ya fam!  CUIDESE MUCHO!

Elder McGhie
ps mom there is an email from president on here with like 20 pics from the water park, feel free to download em (I already had them downloaded before I read this, we never know when we are going to get an email from him anymore so I get on his and check all the time and sometimes I find fun things like pictures from his mission President or calendars for the year, fun things like that!! =)!!and I AM WAITING FOR MY PACKAGE VERY PATIENTLY BUT HEY COME ON NOW I SENT MINE NOW ITS YOU TURN! HAHA BYE! (We sent it Already!! =)
